Burke & James Universal Cine 35mm Hand Crank Movie Camera
Here is a rare Universal Cine 35mm movie camera. I tested it out and it works. It has its original crank and cranks fine. The auto dissolve and manual dissolve both work.

The footage counter gear turns but the gear needs some aligning as I thought the counter moved slowly. I don't know what the other dial does but it does not move. The lens is a rare cine version of the Goerz Celor lens.

I included a picture from their catalog on the lens. The focus and diaphragm work but the glass does need an internal cleaning as I see haze. The lens is in a focusing mount and focuses by rotation of the lens. I read one article that said the Goerz Celor cine lens was considered by some to be a softer focus then other anastigmats of its day but I have no way of knowing if that is true.

The lens is a 2 3/8 focus and the diaphragm is 1.2 and is in the older US scale and not the standard f scale. The camera has a shoe attachment on the bottom of the front of the camera which looks to be for the Goerz Dissolve and Trick Exposure Device. That device is not included and the camera only has the shoe but I have a picture above from the catalog showing what it would have looked like. The strap is intact and looks fine. The lens board is not original and the film marker button usually on the front is not present.

I have included two movies below of the camera being cranked from the front and from the side. With a little work this looks like it could be a nice cine camera to use once again. It comes in its original case which shows a lot of wear.
